Digest of Biblical Civil Law

“One of illegitimate birth shall not enter the assembly of the LORD; even to the tenth generation none of his descendants shall enter the assembly of the LORD” (Deut. 23:2). To “enter the assembly” did not mean that illegitimates were prohibited from attending church, but that they were essentially denied citizenship: prohibited from holding office in the commonwealth of Israel.
