There is a strong biblical prohibition against allowing deceptive measuring devices, which should leave not doubt that God requires the regulation of commerce.  See Lev. 19:35-36; Prov. 11:1, 20:10; Deut. 25:13-15.  Jer. 6:13 demonstrates why regulation of the instruments of commerce is necessary:  "every one deals falsely."  The prophet Micah also cries out against unregulated market places and warns of punishment to the nation that so imbibes: Mic. 6:10-13.
